Mr. ArthurLewis asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will refer the profit margins on bread, eggs and potato production to the Price Commission.
§ Mr. MaclennanEggs and potatoes are already subject to continued surveillance by the Price Commission under the fresh foods reference. In addition, the marketing of eggs was the subject of a special report by the Price Commission published in August 1974. Prices and distributive margins for potatoes have been specially monitored since the beginning of 1976 and regular reports submitted. Bread has for some time been the subject of an inquiry by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission and a reference to the Price Commission would clearly be inappropriate.
