HL Deb 25 January 1977 vol 379 c462WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is the practice of the Home Secretary to give directions for the removal of a citizen of Cyprus who is of Turkish national origin to the Greek-held part of the island, or of such a citizen who is of Greek national origin to the Turkish-held part of the island.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

No. In present circumstances we would not expect a citizen of Cyprus who is of Turkish national origin to return to the Greek-held part of the island nor would we expect one of Greek origin to return to the Turkish-held part. Where someone has ties with both countries, it is a matter for sympathetic judgment in the circumstances of each case.

House adjourned at thirteen minutes past nine o'clock.
