HC Deb 24 January 1977 vol 924 cc457-8W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the position on the renegotiation of the German contract for the supply of nuclear waste to the United Kingdom; and if he intends to terminate those contracts with foreign Powers for the receipt of their nuclear waste.

Mr. Benn

BNFL is in touch with utilities abroad, including utilities in Germany, with a view to re-negotiating certain terms in existing contracts for the reprocessing of irradiated nuclear fuel. These negotiations are still in progress.

As to the second part of the question, the company has asked the Government to renew the import licence which is required in connection with the receipt of fuel under these existing contracts. This request is under consideration.
