§ 25. Mr. Abseasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether in the light of the decision to hold a referendum 433W in Wales on the issues of the Scotland and Wales Bill, he will direct that all further building work at the Cardiff Exchange be halted; what expenditure has so far been incurred; and what penalty and break clauses are within the building contract entered into for the reconstruction of the Exchange.
§ Mr. MarksThe Govenrment intend that work on the Exchange building should proceed. The main contract for the adaptation of the Exchange will be placed shortly. Some preliminary work is being carried out, and the current expenditure commitment is about £48,000. It is not proposed to have penalty and break clauses in the building contract but it will include the normal provision for determination used in Government conditions of contract.
