HC Deb 21 January 1977 vol 924 c352W
Mr. Baker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will estimate the total number of staff in the Inland Revenue that would be saved if capital transfer tax, capital gains tax, stamp duty and development land tax were abolished.

Mr. Robert Sheldon,

pursuant to his reply [Offical Report, 18th January 1977; Vol. 924, c. 110], gave the following information:

If no alternative tax were introduced in place of any of the taxes in question, the number of staff saved would be about 4,300.
