HC Deb 21 January 1977 vol 924 c359W
Mr. Tony Newton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what estimate he has made of the number of students whose contribution record would currently entitle them to unemployment benefit if they were available for work.

Mr. Deakins

For the financial year 1977–78 it is estimated that the weekly average number of students registered as unemployed whose contributions record would, under current legislation, entitle them to unemployment benefit will be about 90,000 during the Easter and Christmas vacations and about 60,000 during the summer vacation.
