HC Deb 21 January 1977 vol 924 c328W
Mr. Charles Irving

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he proposes to take to bring conditions for chief officers of the Ministry of Defence police up to the standards of those for other police officers in accordance with the agreement of 1974.

Dr. Gilbert

An agreement reached in 1974 to bring certain of the conditions of service of the Chief Officers of the Ministry of Defence police into line with those of the Home Office police has been put into effect. This agreement did not change the basis of assessment of the Chief Officers' pay scales which were linked by vertical relativity to those of the federated ranks of the Ministry of Defence police. The pay increase awarded in 1975 to the federated ranks of the Ministry of Defence police was not reflected by a similar increase to the Chief Officers because of the application of the Government's incomes policy as set out in the White Paper "The Attack on Inflation"—Cmnd, 6151. I have been having discussions with representatives of the Chief Officers about the matter.
