Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is his policy towards the expenditure of public funds on waste disposal units in hospitals;

(2) if it is his policy to encourage the installation of waste disposal units in hospitals when pig farmers are prepared to utilise that waste to feed their pigs.

Mr. Moyle

The policy is to encourage the responsible health authority to make its own decision and of course to arrange for the disposal of waste in the most economic manner possible in the light of local circumstances.
