§ Mr. Steenasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what arrangements his Department makes for statistical returns on the number and results of psycho-surgical operations in National Health Service hospitals.
§ Mr. MoyleI would refer the hon. Member to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Lewisham, West (Mr. Price) on 21st January 1976. Arrangements are being made to collect more reliable information about numbers of psychosurgical operations. It is not feasible to collect meaningful information about the results of such operations through statistical returns. I am, however, sending the hon. Member a copy of an article from the British Journal of Psychiatry about a follow-up study of a number of stereotactic limbic leucotomy operations.—[Vol. 903, c.512.]
