§ 16. Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress she has made with her plans to encourage the provision of short in-service courses for teachers in subjects for which there is a shortage of teachers.
§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsTen teacher training institutions have recently been invited to investigate the possibility of providing one-year retraining courses in craft, design and technology, for both serving teachers and those who are not currently in teaching service. The Department hopes shortly to make a similar approach to selected institutions with respect to retraining courses for mathematics teaching.
