§ Mrs. Haymanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many local authorities provide centres for the care of children over five years while their parents work;
(2) how many voluntary schemes for the care of schoolchildren while their parents work are (a) known to the Department and (b) funded by local authorities.
§ Mr. MoyleWe have no information specifically related to facilities for the care of schoolchildren while their parents work, but a recent survey by the Association of County Councils and the Association of Metropolitan Authorities indicated that the majority of local authorities had during the previous three years provided facilities for schoolchildren in the summer holidays in their areas and that in some areas after school facilities and schemes for other holidays were also168W provided. Many of the schemes were run by or in conjunction with voluntary organisations.
