§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for Trade how many grants, and for what amounts, were given by his Department to Yorkshire as a whole, and West Yorkshire, respectively, during the last three years; and how these grants compare with the number and amounts of grants made to Scotland and Wales.
§ Mr. MeacherMy Department makes no direct grants. Provision is made in its Vote to enable grants or loans to be made by the English Tourist Board in response to applications for assistance made under the Development of Tourism Act 1969 and the Board's annual reports, available in the Library of the House, set out total payments made for each of the years in question. The number of grants and amounts paid in respect of developments in Yorkshire and West Yorkshire are not immediately available and I will reply to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
