§ Mr. Joel BarnettSo far as grants-in-aid are concerned, the Supply Estimates show in every case whether expenditure out of the grant-in-aid is audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General; or, if it is not, the extent of his access to the books and accounts. My hon. Friend will appreciate that the total number of48W bodies in receipt of public funds in one form or another is very large indeed. No central record of such bodies is maintained, nor could one be produced without a disproportionate expenditure of time and resources.
