Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many registered unemployed persons were receiving neither unemployment benefit nor supplementary benefit in November 1976; and what percentage this figure was of total registered unemployed.

(2) if he will publish his estimates of the various categories of persons included in the total of registered unemployed who do not receive any unemployment or supplementary benefit.

Mr. Deakins,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 11th January 1977; Vol. 923, c. 454], circulated the following information:

On 2nd August 1976, the latest date for which figures are available, 264,300 registered unemployed persons, comprising 18.1 per cent. of the total, were in receipt of neither unemployment benefit nor supplementary benefit. Of these, 53,800 had exhausted their flat-rate unemployment benefit; 99,200 were awaiting a decision on a claim for unemployment benefit; and 111,300 were not receiving any benefit for other reasons.
