§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Employment, of those jobs preserved under the temporary employment subsidy scheme, how many have (a) continued after the subsidy ended and (b) been lost because the adverse conditions that originally led to the TES application being made did not improve.
§ Mr. GoldingI regret that precise information is not available, and as individual inquiries of employers would be necessary, could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However, a special inquiry on 14th January, indicated the maximum period of payment of TES had expired in respect of about 11,500 jobs. Redundancies were known to have been declared in respect of at least 400 of these and at that time employers were still undecided about the future of at least a further 4,000 jobs.
