§ Mr. Cowansasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what are the procedures which exist whereby the Price Commission can establish that its decisions are being adhered to.
§ Mr. MaclennanAll firms within price control must observe the rules of the code. The larger firms are required to give the Price Commission regular information necessary for monitoring their compliance with the Price Code. Smaller firms—in category III—are required to keep appropriate records which are liable to inspection by the Commission's regional offices. Where a firm is found to be in breach of the code, the Price Commission may issue an order or notice under Section 6 of the Counter-Inflation Act 1973 to ensure that the provisions of the code are implemented; breach of such an order or notice is a criminal offence.
