HC Deb 25 February 1977 vol 926 c720W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the follow-up to the report of the Working Party on the Protection Against Vandalism.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

About 18,000 copies of the report have been sent to those who have an interest in its recommendations, including the police, local authorities, the construction industry, the TUC and the CBI. I have discussed with chief constables the various measures being taken in different parts of the country, and accept their view that most of the action to counter vandalism is best taken locally. The Home Office Crime Prevention Centre is—as recommended by the Report—keeping a record of anti-vandalism measures reported to it by police forces, and Home Office research and publicity is taking account of the report's findings.

With my colleagues in other Departments I am intending to hold a conference shortly to see whether any further action can be taken.
