HC Deb 25 February 1977 vol 926 cc723-4W
Mr. Temple-Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many women over the age of 60 years claimed refunds of national insurance contributions paid after their sixtieth birthday; and what was the total amount paid back by way of such refunds for the most recent appropriate period for which figures are available.

Mr. Deakins

I regret that the information could not be obtained without disproportionate cost.

Mr. Temple-Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what procedure is followed to ensure that women who continue to work after their sixtieth birthday are informed that they no longer have to pay their national insurance contributions.

Mr. Deakins

It is the Department's practice to attempt to communicate with all women approaching the age of 60 for whom a contribution record is held and to tell them in writing about future contribution liability, as this will not necessarily cease at age 60.
