HC Deb 25 February 1977 vol 926 c744W
Mr. Crawford

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the value of the £, taking 1971 as 100, in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976.

Mr. Denzil Davies

Taking the internal purchasing power of the pound as 100p in 1971 its value in each succeeding year is estimated to be 93p, 85½p, 74p, 59p and 51p, respectively. These estimates are based on changes in the General Index of Retail Prices.
