§ Mr. Ronald Brownasked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) if he will publish in the Official Report a list of those banks exempted from the provisions of the Protection of Depositors Act 1963; and if he will confirm that those in the list are known as Section 127 banks;
(2) if he will publish in the Official Report a list of those banks permitted in their accounting to maintain hidden reserves in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 1948; and if he will confirm that those on the list are known as Schedule 8 banks.
§ Mr. Clinton DavisThese banks are listed in Appendix A to the Department's Annual Report on Companies. Copies of "Companies in 1975", published in August 1976, are available in the Library. I confirm that banking or discount companies exempted from the Protection of Depositors Act 1963, as amended, are commonly known as "Section 127 banks" and that those treated as banking or discount companies for the purposes of the Eighth Schedule to the Companies Act 1948, as amended, are known as "Schedule 8 banks".
