§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science which organisations were invited to submit nomina 668W with developing a unified national system of courses for persons at all levels of technician occupations. The ONC in engineering is administered by the Joint Committee for Ordinary National Certificates and Diplomas in Engineering. It is Government policy that the awards of all joint committees shall be phased out and replaced by those of the Technician Education Council awards; but the timing is a matter for consultation between the Council and the relevant Joint Committee. No firm decision has yet been announced for the phasing out of the ONC in engineering.
