Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what further action he proposes to resolve the dispute with the Republic of Ireland over Blocks 132/15 and 133/11; and what steps he proposes to take to protect the accrued rights of current licensees.

Relations with the Government of the Republic of Ireland are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. As the hon. Member knows my right hon. Friend has made conditional offers of licences for the two blocks. The holders of licences under the Petroleum (Production) Act 1934 will continue to enjoy the same rights to protection under the law as other persons in the United Kingdom.
