asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he has taken to persuade the European Economic Community to establish the Community Institute for Economic Analysis and Research in the United Kingdom.

Agreement has not yet been reached on a Commission proposal for a Council regulation on the establishment of a European Community Institute for Economic Analysis and Research (R/2529/75). The location of the institute has not been discussed and my right hon. Friend has, therefore, not approached his Community colleagues on the question raised by the hon. Member. Practical considerations of the operational efficiency of the institute will need to be taken into account in a decision on location.
