HC Deb 23 February 1977 vol 926 cc584-5W
Mr. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for shotgun certificates were accepted and rejected in each of the last five years.

Dr. Summerskill

I regret that information is not available in the form requested. There were 715,453 shotgun certificates in force in England and Wales on 31st December 1971 and 766,952 on 31st December 1974.

Mr. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people are employed on considering applications for shotgun certificates: and what is the average length of time taken to process each application.

Dr. Summerskill

People are not separately employed by police authorities to consider shotgun applications. The average time taken to process each application in each force could not be calculated without disproportionate effort.
