HC Deb 23 February 1977 vol 926 c594W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether the build-up of excessive nitrates in water is detrimental to livestock and poultry.

Mr. Strang

Very high levels of nitrates in drinking water could be harmful to livestock and poultry, but there is no reason to believe that levels commonly found are detrimental. No cases of nitrate poisoning in livestock or poultry due to normal farm water supplies have come to the attention of my Veterinary Service in the past year.
