Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment when he will announce his decision as to whether Friday 30th December 1977 or Monday 2nd January 1978 will be the official New Year's Day holiday.

As already announced Monday 2nd January 1978 will be a bank holiday in Scotland under the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971. I hope shortly to complete consultations about the bank holiday to he designated at the New Year in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
