HC Deb 23 February 1977 vol 926 cc615-6W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the provisions contained in Acts of Parliament, regulations or rules which are the responsibility of his Department and which afford unequal treatment between an illegitimate and a legitimate child or be- tween the parent of a legitimate child and the parent of an illegitimate child.

Dr. Gilbert

Illegitimate children and their parents are not singled out for discriminatory treatment in any departmental legislation, regulations or rules. An illegitimate child is regarded as "a child of the family" and treated in the same way as any legitimate child for Service purposes if it has been brought up at some time in the household of the husband and wife.
