§ 31. Mr. Hoyleasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will report the present situation in relation to a German contribution to the cost of the British Army in Germany.
§ Mr. MulleyMy right hon. Friend the Prime Minister made it clear to the House on 25th January that during Herr Schmidt's recent visit we did not attempt to reach a final agreement on the question of offsetting the costs of stationing our troops in Germany, on which our two Governments hold different positions. As he said, our discussions will continue and there is confidence on both sides that we shall, with time, reach a conclusion on the matter. I am afraid that there is nothing more than I can add.
§ Mr. Mayhewasked the Secretary of State for Defence when he proposes to answer the letter from the hon. Member 545W for Royal Tunbridge Wells dated 26th January 1977, on the subject of his oral answer to him in the Official Report 25th January, column 1155.
§ Mr. MulleyI replied to the hon. Member yesterday.
