HC Deb 21 February 1977 vol 926 c414W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he proposes to refer conflicting issues between the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain over the Continental Shelf to international arbitration.

Dr. Owen

The Government of the Republic of Ireland have been informed that Her Majesty's Government accept the Irish proposal to refer the delimitation of the Continental Shelf to an independent settlement disputes procedure through some form of third party settlement of a judicial nature, subject to reaching agreement with the Government of the Republic of Ireland on the chosen tribunal, its composition, its terms of reference and other related matters.
