HC Deb 21 February 1977 vol 926 cc477-8W
Miss Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether, since some women will be leaving work within six weeks of 6th April 1977 who will be entitled to receive a proportion of the six weeks' maternity pay under the Employment Protection Act 1975, he intends to make any transitional arrangements with respect to the maternity pay provisions: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Harold Walker

Transitional provisions were made on 23rd August 1976 in the Employment Protection Act 1975 (Commencement No. 5) Order 1976 to provide that maternity pay will be payable only where the first six weeks of absence for pregnancy or confinement begins on or after 6th April 1977.
