asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his latest estimate of the effect on electricity prices of bringing forward by two years the proposed Drax B coal-fired power station.

As my right hon. Friend informed my hon. Friend the Member for Newcastle upon Tyne, East (Mr. Thomas) on 10th January, we have been advised that the effect on prices could range from negligible to about 4 per cent. depending on the rate of growth of electricity demand and other factors.
