HL Deb 17 February 1977 vol 379 cc1846-8WA
The Lord Bishop of LONDON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the information provided in the House of Commons on 21st January, in reply to a Written Question by Mr. Peter Bottomley, the Voluntary Services Unit still has £317,000 to allocate during the current financial year, and bearing in mind that the total cost of the information booths, which the Government Working Party on Young Homeless People invited them to consider, is currently estimated at £56,700, they will now re-consider their decision not to provide adequate financial assistance to run these booths.

The MINISTER of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Harris of Greenwich)

The Voluntary Services Unit is already making grants totalling over £60,000 towards provision for homeless young people in central London and up to another £10,000 has been offered to improve the existing information services. The Unit must retain a sum sufficient to ensure the maintenance of continuing commitments and to meet any unexpected demands.

House adjourned at eight minutes past eight o'clock.
