HC Deb 17 February 1977 vol 926 cc355-6W
12. Mr. Weetch

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the world price, or lowest offer price, of maize; what is the current EEC levy on maize; and approximately what percentage of costs of feed maize in the United Kingdom is represented by EEC levy or tax.

Mr. Bishop

It is not possible to determine a single world price, nor a single lowest offer price, for maize. However, the price of American maize in this coun- try on 7th February, according to the Home Grown Cereals Authority, was £86 per metric tonne. This price includes the net EEC levy of £2.42 applied in the United Kingdom on that day, which is about 3 per cent. of the cost of maize for feed.
