HC Deb 17 February 1977 vol 926 cc348-9W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what steps are to be taken to deal with imports of horticultural glass from East Europe which are arriving in the United Kingdom at dumped prices.

Mr. Meacher

In response to a joint approach from Pilkington Brothers Ltd. and the General and Municipal Workers' Union I have asked my officials to undertake a full investigation into allegations of dumping of glass for horticultural purposes originating from Czechoslovakia, USSR, Romania and Poland. While this proceeds the Department will also consider whether horticultural glass from other countries should be brought into the full investigation. I am satisfied that there is prima facie evidence of dumping which is causing material injury to the firm and I hope that the case will be concluded satisfactorily within a month or so.
