HC Deb 17 February 1977 vol 926 c361W
37. Mr. Marten

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are being taken to dispose of dairy product surpluses in the EEC.

Mr. Bishop

The Intervention Agencies of the Community sell butter at below the intervention price to, for example, non-profit-making organisations, the Armed Forces and the pastry-making industry; donations for food aid are made in the form of butter oil. Skimmed milk powder is also donated for food aid, whilst sales below the intervention price are made where the powder is for use as animal feed either within the Community or elsewhere. A recent Commission proposal to encourage greater use of liquid skim milk and fresh skimmed milk powder in animal feeding stuffs was recently debated in the House and is now being considered within the Council.
