HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 cc192-3W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will arrange for the Royal Marines to mount the guard at Buckingham Palace for a period during 1977 in the same way as the RAF Regiment so that all three services may have the honour during the Queen's Silver Jubilee year.

Mr. Duffy

No. Owing to operational, training and other commitments, a detachment of Royal Marines could not be made available for guard duty at Buckingham Palace during 1977. The Royal Marines already have a full programme of participation in Silver Jubilee celebrations, including an inspection by Her Majesty the Queen at Plymouth on 5th August 1977.
