HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 cc169-70W
Mr. Cyril Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish the statistical or other evidence available indicating the need for a child assessment centre to be built by the Rochdale Area Health Authority.

Mr. Moyle

The centre under construction at Birch Hill Hospital is being built in accordance with national guidance given by my Department in 1968 and 1971, which indicated the need for facilities for the comprehensive assessment of handicapped children to be provided as part of the district general hospital service, with supporting facilities at sub-regional and regional level. I am sending the hon. Member copies of the memoranda concerned.
