HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 cc146-7W
3. Mr. Budgen

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will report on the progress of the consultations as part of the debate on education policy.

29. Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will make a statement concerning recent consultations she has had on educational priorities.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

A series of eight one-Jay regional meetings to discuss educational matters begins on Friday with a conference in Newcastle. As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister said in the answers given on 8th February to the hon. Members for Macclesfield (Mr. Winterton) and Carshalton (Mr. Forman), a Green Paper outlining the Government's proposals will be published during the summer.

46. Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals she has for improving contacts between schools and industries with a view to school leavers having a greater understanding of industry prior to their actually leaving school; and if she will make a statement.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

The relationship between schools and industry is one of the principal subjects under discussion in the current national debate about school education. After consideration of the results of the regional conferences and the other contributions to the debate I intend to set out my conclusions and proposals in a consultative document.
