HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 cc181-2W
Mr. Lee

asked the Minister of Agricnulture, Fisheries and Food if he will undertake not to sanction any further extension of Common Market import levies on foodstuffs at least until the rate of inflation drops into single figures.

Mr. Bishop

The level of import levies within the existing commodity regimes is fixed by the Commission in accordance with the rules laid down by the Council. If any proposals are put forward for changes in these rules or for an extension of levies to other commodities, the effect on food prices in the United Kingdom will be one of the major factors my right hon. Friend will take into account.
