§ Mr. Pattieasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many jobs have been (a)saved, (b) created by each of the temporary employment programmes introduced by the Government since October 1974; and what has been the cost of each programme.
§ Mr. GoldingFor the programmes administered by my Department, the information is as follows:
- (a) By 11th February 1977 temporary employment subsidy had been paid for
196 195,708 jobs with an estimated financial commitment of £185 million. - (b) By 4th February 1977, 7,666 applications had been approved for the youth employment subsidy involving an estimated financial commitment of about £1.5 million.
- (c) Some 30,000 applications have been approved for the recruitment subsidy for school leavers which ended on 30th September 1976. The total cost of the subsidy is estimated at just over £3 million.
- (d) 230 new posts have been created in the careers service; the new staff have found over 15,000 extra vacancies for young people. The cost of the new posts is £1.15 million in a full financial year.
- (e) By 11th February 1977, 6,512 applications had been approved under the job release scheme at a gross cost of £7.7 million, assuming that they run for a full year.
The Manpower Services Commission has provided me with the following information about the schemes which it operates.
(f) By 3rd February, grants totalling £86.5 million had been approved under the job creation programme for projects involving 63,471 jobs.
(g) By 5th February, the total financial commitment under the work experience programme was £4.6 million; 1,422 schemes had been approved involving 10,165 places.
In addition to these employment measures, the Government have allocated over £140 million since July 1975 both to support training in industry and to increase the training provided directly by the Training Services Agency.
§ Mr. Geraint Howellsasked the Secretary of State for Employment how much money has been allocated to date in Ceredigion under the job creation schemes; what are the estimates for the next 12 months; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GoldingI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that 20 projects have been approved in Ceredigion providing 114 jobs with a total of £179,866. It is not possible to estimate future allocations. Sufficient funds are 197W available, however, to enable the programme to accept applications up to 30th April 1977.
