HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 c164W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will indicate for each of the most recent five years for which figures are available the number of young people under the age of 19 years obtaining day release from employment to pursue courses at colleges of further education; what proportion of the young people in the age group in employment this represents; and what proportion of the young people not in full-time education in the age group this represents.

Mr. Oakes

The numbers of young people under the age of 19 years on day release courses at colleges of further education in England and Wales and the estimated percentage these form of young people not in full-time education are as follows:

STUDENTS ON DAY RELEASE COURSES
At November Number in thousands As percentage of those not in full-time education
1971 317 20.0
1972 302 19.0
1973 282 21.0
1974 292 21.0
1975 272 20.0

Reliable estimates of the number of young persons in employment in recent years are not available; the percentages on that base would be a little higher than the above.
