HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 c111W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is his policy towards EEC proposals that Customs duties should be suspended on certain fish species used for processing.

Mr. Meacher

In view of the continuing discussions between the Community and third countries about access to their fishing grounds, any general agreement on suspensions of Customs duties would seem premature, particularly in the case of the main white fish species. The consideration in the Community of two member States' requests for certain tariff suspensions is being approached with this very much in mind.
