asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement on his discussions with the Heads of State of other EEC countries on the holding of direct elections to the European Parliament in 1978.

The European Council discussed direct elections at its meeting in Brussels on 12th and 13th July 1976, when agreement was reached on the number of seats in a directly elected European Parliament and their distribution between member States.
