HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 cc128-9W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his latest estimate of the number of empty dwellings in (a) London and (b) the rest of England and Wales.

Mr. Armstrong

The most recent comprehensive estimate of the number of empty dwellings is provided by the 1971 census, which recorded 99,730 dwellings in Greater London, and 576,150 dwellings in the rest of England and Wales, as vacant on census night.
