HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 c178W
Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost, in terms of loss of revenue to the Exchequer in 1977–78, of raising the child benefit to £3.35 for all children, and £3.85 for the first child of one-parent families.

Mr. Orme

Increasing the rates of child benefit to £3.35 for all children plus a further 50p for the first child of one-parent families in 1977–78 would result in an additional cost of £1.3 billion net of savings on other social security benefits and without adjustment of child tax allowances.
