Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the additional recurrent cost of providing 650 additional teaching posts in 1977; how many of the 800 additional posts created in 1976 have been taken up; and what is the cost of those posts.

Mr. Carter

The cost of providing the additional 650 teaching posts recently announced will be approximately £3,200,000 in a full year. All of the additional 800 posts created in 1976 have been taken up, and the cost in a full year is approximately £4 million.

Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many of the additional teaching posts to be created in 1977 will be allocated to schools in the Down, North constituency, indicating the different schools affected.

Mr. Carter

The Northern Ireland Department of Education has asked school authorities to indicate what they feel will be their requirements for teachers in 1977–78. When replies have been received and analysed teaching posts will be allocated having regard to the specific needs
