HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 c91W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what pro portion of total payments made under the provisions of the Redundancy Payments Act were paid to persons in the 60 to 64 year age group inclusive in each of the past five years.

Mr. Golding

Precise figures are not available but the proportion of total payments made under the Redundancy Payments Act to persons in the 60-64 age group is estimated to be as follows:—

Proportion of total amount paid Proportion of total number of Payments
Per cent. per cent.
Year ended 31st March 1976 32 16
Period 1st April 1976–13th December 1976 31 15

The estimates are based on a sample analysis (approximately 10 per cent.) of payments made, details of which have been placed in the Library. No figures are available for periods prior to April 1975.
