Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total number of householders in England and Wales who were receiving rate rebates at 31st March 1976; what was the total amount granted in rate many students graduated from universities in the United Kingdom for the years 1961–62, 1964–65, 1969–70 and 1974–75 with an undergraduate first degree, excluding medicine, dentistry and veterinary studies.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science further to her answer of Thursday 3rd February, if she will further break down the figures given for 1961–62 and 1974–75 of those graduates shown as going into industry into (a) commercial industry, (b) public utilities and (c) public transport, and any further categories available.

Further to my answer of 3rd February, the figures below give the fullest breakdown available by type of employer for first-degree graduates known to have gone into industry; those going into public utilities and public transport cannot be separated.

The total number of householders in England and Wales receiving rate rebates at 31st March 1976 was 2.58 million. The total value of rate rebates granted in the financial year ending 31st March 1976 was £117.4 million. Lists of the corresponding figures for each rating authority are available in the Library.
