HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 c48W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied that all local authority pension funds can sustain cost of living increases in pensions from their own funds; and, if not, what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Freeson

I have been asked to reply.

Cost of living increases in local government pensions are not borne by superannuation funds. The Pensions (Increase) Act 1971 requires the cost to be found from an employer's rate fund or other appropriate fund. I am satisfied that employers are complying with their obligations.
