HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 cc63-4W
Mr. Hal Miller

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) whether he will make an early statement on Government policy on new town corporations, in view of present uncertainty about financing them;

(2) in view of the fact that industrial companies including foreign companies are reconsidering their investment plans in new towns, whether he will make an early statement to clarify which new towns will be enabled to complete their planned development.

Mr. Shore

I expect to make a statement about my review of decentralisation policies and reappraisal of the new town programmes within two months.

Mr. Hal Miller

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what compensation will be paid to industries and shops established in new towns in anticipation of planned development and population targets being achieved when those plans are not fulfilled as a result of changes in Government policy;

(2) what compensation or restitution will be awarded to the original owners of land acquired compulsorily for the development of those new towns which are not to be completed as a result of changes in Government policy.

Mr. Shore

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave him on 10th February.—[Vol. 925, c.767–8.]
